A fish tank is more than just a decoration in your home or office. An aquarium requires regular maintenance to continue to look pleasing, and the fish and other animals and plants in the fish tank will also require care and attention to remain healthy and enjoyable.
Aquarium fish are not as demanding as a parrot and do not even require as much attention as a cat, or the amount of care a dog needs. However, a fish is still a pet and a living animal. As such they will need care, and their cage - the fish tank - will need maintenance.
Remember to feed your fish daily, but don't overfeed. Do a water change weekly (or more often). Check all the equipment regularly and make sure everything is working.
If you take these simple steps, your fish tank should continue to be a pleasant addition to your family room, office, den, or reception area.
When you first set up your fish tank, it will go through the cycling process . During the six to eight weeks it takes for your aquarium to cycle, additional care will be required, mostly in the form of additional water changes. keep up with these extra water changes to avoid risk of ammonia stress which can lead to " new tank syndrome . Often the first few weeks with a new fish tank is the most stressful, and this can lead to frustration and loss of interest. However, sticking to a good aquarium maintenance schedule can avoid most of these issues.
